Biography of Major General Lere Anan Timur Chief of Timor-Leste Defence Force
Major General Lere Anan Timur son of Domingos dos Santos and Filipa dos Santos, borned in Dara Maraa, Iliomar, Lospalos, on the 2nd of February 1952. He is the eldest of six brothers and sisters, two girls and four boys.
Struggle for Liberation
In July 1983, after the breaking of Cease-Fire between the TNI and FALINTIL he was transferred to the Region “Haksolok” (Ainaro and Suai) taking the new responsibility as a Principal Responsible of the Region. In 1985 he became as the Fourth Unit Commanding Officer in the region of Viqueque. In 1990 Major General Lere Anan Timur transferred to the region of Eastern Point (Lospalos) as the Principal Responsible and Region Commanding Officer and remained there until the end of the war. In 1997 he was appointed to Vice-Chief of Staff of FALINTIL.
FALINTIL-Forças de Defesa de Timor-Leste (F-FDTL)
He was promoted to the rank of Colonel of F-FDTL on the 1st of February 2001 in Aileu and became Chief of Staff of F-FDTL prior to the Restoration of Independence on 20 May 2002. Major General Lere Anan Timur was promoted to Brigadier General in November 2009 and taking the responsibility as Vice-Chief of the Defence Force of F-FDTL. On 6 October 2011 he was finally promoted to Major General and taking the responsibility as the new CDF of F-FDTL soon after Major General Taur Matan Ruak ‘s resignation for running the candidate of the Presidential election until the present.
Major General Lere Anan Timur married to Mrs Elsa Pinto and passed away in 1981, and they had two sons, Carlos Alú da Costa and Elito Oan Kiak Boby. In 2001, after war, Major General Lere Anan Timur remarried to Mrs Cidalia Mesquita Ximenes da Costa and they have six children (a son and five daughters): Titânia, Maria, Talia, Tania, Tito Junior and Gracia.
