Minister of Defense and Ambassador of New Zealand Forge Closer Ties in Strategic Talks

March 14, 2024 - Today, His Excellency the Minister of Defense of
Timor-Leste, Rear Admiral Donaciano da Costa Gomes 'Pedro Klamar Fuik', Ph.D,
received a cordial meeting with the Ambassador of New Zealand, Mrs. Helen
Tunnah, at the Ministry of Defense building in Fatuhada, Dili.
His
Excellency the Minister of Defense, Rear Admiral Pedro Klamar Fuik, expressed
gratitude for the continuous cooperation between Timor-Leste and New Zealand
during the state and nation-building process. Additionally, the leader
emphasized the importance of New Zealand's ongoing contribution to the F-FDTL
Institute and the Ministry of Defense.
During
the meeting, the ambassador greeted His Excellency the Minister of Defense and
discussed areas of strategic cooperation between Timor-Leste and New Zealand in
defence and security.
An
essential aspect of the conversations revolved around deepening bilateral
cooperation between Timor-Leste and New Zealand. Both parties shared
perspectives on security and country development issues, and New Zealand
committed to supporting Timor-Leste's development in areas such as security,
education, and agriculture.
Furthermore,
Ambassador Helen highlighted New Zealand's commitment to supporting
Timor-Leste's sectors, especially in security and defence, which were
established since the country's independence process through INTERFET forces.
The meeting between the Minister of Defense of Timor-Leste and the Ambassador of New Zealand signifies a significant advancement in promoting mutual collaboration and strengthening diplomatic ties between the two nations.
