Ministry of Defence Receives Courtesy Visit from Chinese Naval Delegation
On Friday, May 31, 2024, The
Ministry of Defence, under the leadership of Chief of Cabinet Mrs. Ana
Carascalão Gomes, alongside Director-General of National Defense Policy
(DG-PDN) Mr. Nuno Carvalho Santos, and Director-General of Defense Resources
Mr. Martinho Soares Moniz, convened a diplomatic meeting with Superintendent
RADM SHAO Shuguang and his delegation from the Dalian Naval Academy. This
meeting occurred at the Ministry of Defense building in Fatuhada, Dili.
The gathering coincided with the
visit of the naval vessel Qi Jiguang to Timor-Leste, scheduled to berth at Dili
Port for three days.
The primary aim of the meeting
was to strengthen the bond between Timor-Leste and the Chinese government,
fostering better communication within the defense sector of both nations and
advancing peace and stability in the region.
During the proceedings, Chief of
Cabinet Mrs. Ana Carascalão Gomes conveyed gratitude, on behalf of Defense
Minister Rear Admiral Donaciano da Costa Gomes 'Pedro Klamar Fuik', Ph.D., to
the Chinese government for its unwavering support to Timor-Leste, particularly
in defense and economic matters.
Similarly, Superintendent RADM
SHAO Shuguang expressed appreciation for the warm hospitality and kindness
extended by the Timorese people, notably by government officials and military
personnel upon their arrival at Dili Port.
RADM SHAO also highlighted his
impression of Timor-Leste as a land of generosity, hospitality, and captivating
natural beauty, leaving a profound impact on the delegation from the Chinese
Navy.
As the meeting drew to a close,
both parties exchanged tokens of appreciation as a symbolic gesture to further
promote Timor-Leste's national products and deepen cooperation between the two
nations within the defense sector, thus ensuring lasting peace and stability in
the region.
